DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has approved the transfer of Museo Dabawenyo to People's Park after a thorough study and research.

Davao City Councilor Pilar Braga made the announcement in a privilege speech Tuesday, June 27, adding that the mayor also approved the building design.

"The proposed building is Durian-inspired design by our city architect as approved by our City Mayor," Braga said.

She added that the construction is eyed to start later this year.

Braga added that the funding for the P100 million Museo Dabawenyo is sourced out from national funds as a gift of President Rodrigo Duterte to the city of Davao.

Based on the committee hearing previously done by Museo Dabawenyo administrative officer Orly Escarilla, the new museum will be a four-story building equipped with bigger storage space and two galleries to host artworks of different artists in Davao.

The City Council approved on May 25, the amendments of the ordinance providing for the permanent home of Museo Dabawenyo, allowing its transfer from A. Pichon St. to Palma Gil Street within the premises of People's Park.

The amendment was requested by the executive department as required by the Office of the President for the latter to fund the construction of the museum.

The city councilors also passed a resolution strongly recommending the construction of the P100-million project.
