Natuplag eyed for OPBF youth crown

IFUGAO boxing sensation KJ Natuplag is being primed up for another Philippine boxing title.

The undefeated 21–year–old is reportedly eyeing the youth title of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation tentatively set in February this year.

Boxing promoter Darwin Miller Dep-ay of DMAD Boxing promotions said they are still ironing out details of the bout.

"We hope to bring the bout to Baguio City," added Dep-ay.

Natuplag rose to prominence in the local boxing scene after winning the vacant Philippines Boxing Federation featherweight title in November last year by retiring Danilo Peña before the seventh round.

With the win, Natuplag stayed undefeated in six fights including a second round technical knockout of Bener Santig in September which earned him a crack at the vacant 126 lbs pound Philippine crown.

Four of Natuplag's victory came by knock out with only one going the distance when he won via split decision against Bryan Tamayo for the vacant Philippines Luzon Professional Boxing Association bantamweight title in November 2016.

Dep-ay added they are hoping positive feedback from sponsor in a bid to bring in more fighters in the Cordillera region needing exposure.

The boxing promoter added prior to the big event, an amateur boxing tournament will be held in La Trinidad on February 3 dubbed "Boxing Kontra Droga" with Italian Andrea Cola against Phillip Kurz of Germany headlining the event.

“We will also have amateur fighters coming from the Cordillera region and this will be a pilot project in barangay Poblacion,” added Dep-ay. (Roderick Osis)
