THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Davao nabbed a man, who allegedly creates and sell fake local and National Government-issued documents and identification cards (IDs), in an entrapment operation in the Davao City on Tuesday, June 6.
NBI-Davao Director lawyer Arnold Rosales identified the suspect as Mark Anthony Montecalvo Pasion, alias “Jay,” a stall owner, a resident of the city. He was arrested following the complaints from concerned government offices.
In a report obtained from the Bureau, Pasion was arrested inside an establishment along Bolton Street at 2 p.m., June 6. The case stemmed from the request of the Office of the Anti-Scam Unit (OASU) under the Davao City Government to NBI.
Rosales said the operation was conducted following the mandate of intensifying the monitoring operation against the proliferation of fake local and National Government-issued documents and printing of various counterfeited ID cards.
He added that such illegal act may be used by unscrupulous individuals in gaining entry/access to the city to commit acts that may endanger public safety especially with the current peace and order situation in the region and in Mindanao.
The suspect was arrested after he completed the transaction and handed one Bureau of Internal Revenue Tin ID and one Philippine Health Insurance Corporation ID to the NBI agent, who posed as a customer.
The authorities recovered P300 cash, assorted government-issued IDs, two computer units with keyboard and printer, one laminating machine, assorted flash drives/USB, one ruler, and several other documents.
The suspect is currently detained at the NBI jail facility and is facing charges for falsification by private individuals and possession of instrument and/or implements intended for the Commission of Falsification under the Revised Penal Code.
