NBI told to hasten result of autopsy on woman

THE father of a young woman from Bacolod City who died pregnant with twins asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to hasten the result of the autopsy conducted two months ago.

Jose Cesar Penario, father of Mary Joy Geronca, said they could not file the case to get justice for the death of his daughter and her babies without the official result on the autopsy conducted by Dr. Nicasio Botin, medico legal officer of NBI-Western Visayas.

“I even helped exhume the body of my daughter. Dr. Botin informed me that the problem was on the body of my daughter that’s why we are asking for the official autopsy result,” Penario said in a press conference Tuesday, May 30.

He said that it has been 40 days since the autopsy was conducted.

“I have called and texted him (Botin) several times for an update on my daughter’s case but he has not replied,” Penario said.

Geronca and her twins died at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod last January 17 due to alleged alleged negligence of the hospital staff as claimed by her father.

Penario has asked the assistance of advocacy group Task Force Crusaders in seeking the help of the NBI national office.

Dr. Julius Drilon, chief of CLMMRH, had earlier said there was no negligence since the staff has done everything to save the patients.
