Negrense youth group brings cheer to Aeta tribe in Sagay

SIGAW ng Kabataan Coalition’s (SKC) Negros Island Regional Guild conducted an outreach activity with an Aeta tribe in Barangay Puey, Sagay City in Negros Occidental as a part of its year-end thanksgiving.

The activity included fun games, storytelling, gift-giving, hygiene kits distribution and demonstration of its usage, and a consultation with the tribe elders for the group to know the actual needs of the community.

“The outreach was an awesome way to end the year. It was quite timely to do such activity. The Aeta community appreciated the simple outreach that we did. Though we had a very short time to prepare, we were glad because the everyone responded immediately to our call for help. It was a great experience and an impacting activity for both the organization and the recipients,” SKC Negros Ambassador Jeffy Alcansare said.

SKC national president Ellirie Aviles, who joined the activity, said it was an important day for the coalition whose members are youth leaders and local organizations from across the country.

It was the first activity of the Negros Island Regional Guild since it was formed, he added.

“This is a milestone for SKC as this signifies the expansion of areas where we will be able to do projects not merely to amplify young people’s voices but also in making a difference in our communities. We are grateful and honored to work hand in hand with Rotary Clubs and the City Government of Sagay in making this project a successful one,” said Aviles, also the youth service director of Rotary Club of Fort Bonifacio Global City based in Taguig.

“This is just the start. SKC, through our Negros Regional Guild, intends to do more sustainable projects in the future,” he added.

The Sagay City project was co-hosted by the Rotary Satellite Club of Fort Bonifacio Global City and Rotary Club of Makati West.

The group was assisted by the Department of Social Services and Development, City Tourism Office, and Sagay Assistance Volunteer Emergency Response group.

The activity was led by SKC Regional Ambassador Jeffy Alcansare, SKC Negros Occidental Governor John Rick Ogan, Sagay City Chapter President Tharra Mae Perez, and Executive Secretary Ella Mae Ardeña. (With PR)
