Negros Island police official denies ‘Berya protector’ tag

SUPERINTENDENT Maharlika Oscar Villasis, chief of Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG) in Negros Island Region (NIR), dismissed the reports naming him as the drug protector of Berya Group.

Villasis said he was not even aware of the allegation, but believed that the issue came from somebody close to the top drug personalities he has arrested.

“Who knows about the existence of that group or does it even exist?” Villasis asked, adding that the issued is designed to destroy his name.

Villasis said he is not affected though, and will not dwell on it, but he already knows the person behind the rumor, one who is already under surveillance.

As RSOTG chief, Villasis led the arrest of Gerald Cuadra, 38, that led to the recovery of 130.634 grams of shabu valued at P1.25 million, and the apprehension of a suspected drug lord William Chua, 60, and his son Wesley, 31, who yielded P900,000 worth of illegal drugs in Barangay Alijis.

His unit also seized some P900,000 worth of shabu from Christopher Dedel, 56, of Barangay Villamonte, and Harie Cesar, 28, of Himamaylan City.

Talisay’s top drug personality Diamel Bato, 45, was found with P600,000 worth of illegal drugs and two .45 caliber pistols.

Villasis is scheduled for transfer to the Philippine National Police national headquarters on September 15.

“I have already prove myself (in this job) and I also have to give way to other officers and at the same time focus on my career development," Villasis said.

His successor has yet to be named.
