THE Negros First Taekwondo Association (NFTA) was formed recently to seek talented athletes and potential medalists who will represent the Province of Negros Occidental in international taekwondo events.
Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel Verdeflor is the association president while Benson Fernandez is the secretary general.
Coordinators have been assigned in all the six districts, including Romulo Bascar for the First District; Bany John Sarabia, Second District; Francis Paranpan, Third District; Ignacio Denila, Fourth District; Othelo Versoza, Fifth District; and Joselito Cordero, Sixth District.
Adviser is Bacolod taekwondo coach Vic Feria.
Last month, Negrense Mary Angeline Alcantara, 13, captured a gold medal for the Philippines and was named Most Valuable Player in the 2017 World Cadet Taekwondo Championships held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Alcantara’s achievement was recognized by the Provincial Government, and she was given a cash incentive of P50,000 which she could use for her further training and development. (PR)
