New businesses up by 24%

APPLICATIONS for new business permits for the first 20 days of 2017 had gone up by 24 percent in 2017 as compared last year.

Data from the City Business Bureau showed as of January 20, 2016, 425 new business applicants applied for permits as compared to 344 new business applicants last year in the same period.

The bureau also noted an increase with the number of existing businesses that had renewed their permits. For last year, 31,942 business permits were renewed, a little too short in comparison with this year's number that reaches more than 33,000 business permits.

Last January 20 was the deadline for the permit payment and whoever files application starting January 21 will already be subject to a penalty fine. Twenty-five percent of their actual fee will be added to their payment.

The City Business Bureau is still accepting business permit applications and renewal.

The increase in the number of business permit applicants, whether new businesses or for renewal, is reflective of what the Davao Chamber of Commerce and Industry had previously stated that the economy of Davao City will continue to flourish especially with former Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as the president of the Philippines.
