Night market bombing commemorative mass set

A MASS to commemorate the September 2016 Roxas Night Market blast is set on August 31.

Public Safety and Security Command Center head Retired General Benito de Leon shared this during the I-Speak weekly media forum held at General Services Office conference room on Thursday, August 24, at Davao City Hall.

"In view of the bombing anniversary, the mass has been moved to August 31, at four in the afternoon," said De Leon who read the advisory sent to all city heads.

Davao City Mayor's Office chief-of-staff lawyer Raul Nadela, during the distribution of the financial assistance for victims and their families last August 11, said that a short program will be held to commemorate the tragic incident at the marker.

De Leon said that the family members of those who died in the bombing especially from Davao City are expected to join the activity.

"It is anticipated that they might come, but we know that there are those who are not from Davao City, so not all of them will be coming over," he said.

The bombing has killed 15 people and wounded 69 others.

The beneficiaries, victims and families of victims were given P50,000 for livelihood programs last August 11 from the trust fund gathered by the city through a bank account created to solely give aid to the victims.

The donations from the trust fund reached up to P9 million, a total of P7.5 million was requested by the city to be allocated for the livelihood and medical maintenance of the families of victims and bombing survivors while the P4 million is allotted for the recuperation and recovery of those who were severely injured.
