NMRAA falters with only 20 golds

NORTHERN Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) has 20 golds, 20 silvers, and 42 bronze medals as of 10:08 a.m. Saturday, April 29, in the concluding day of this year’s Palarong Pambansa in Antique.

NMRAA bagged five more medals, three golds in sepak takraw and two more from taekwondo.

As of 10 a.m. last Friday, the contingent closed the day with 15 gold medals. With only few games remaining Saturday, NMRAA is short of expectation as they are five golds short compared to their last year’s medal finish of 25 golds, 24 silvers, and 36 bronze medals.

But despite of the outcome, NMRAA has something to be proud of after the surprising performances from its taekwondo team that led the whole delegation with nine golden harvest. Even landing 8th place as of this Saturday, NMRAA achieved more medal count as Michael Porras made history setting a new record for bagging four gold medals from taekwondo.

“Bayani karong tuiga ang taekwondo sa NMRAA tungod sa ilang impresibong lakaw ron,” said Bombo Jerome Bacud, who covered the games for Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro.

Also on Friday, Gwen Escarda added a gold as she ruled the secondary girls chess blitz category.

NMRAA targeted an ambitious feat of for 50 golds in this year’s Palaro.
