Nuisance items seized in jail greyhound ops

A NUMBER of nuisance items were seized during the greyhound operation conducted at the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area (MBDJ-Sica) in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City Friday morning.

Senior Inspector Larry Fuentes, jail warden of MBDJ-Sica, said unauthorized items like ballpens, spoons, woods, nails, lighters, wires, playing cards, and pirated discs were confiscated, which are considered minor and insignificant contrabands.

No deadly or improvised weapons, firearms, and illegal drugs were seized.

Fuentes said this is a positive development that can be attributed to the strict monitoring of inmates, and search on visitors.

The operation was conducted at 6:30 a.m. in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Negros Occidental, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine National Police, and the Philippine Coast Guard.

It is in line with the nationwide “Oplan Linis Piitan” campaign of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology that ensures every jail facility is clear from any contraband items, particularly illegal drugs.

“This is also to check if there is still presence of illegal activities inside the jail,” Fuentes said.

The MBDJ-Sica has 693 inmates.
