AS PART of the national nutrition month celebration with a theme “Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit for Life,” the National Nutrition Committee in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is keen on promoting health in the workplace to fight malnutrition and the prevalence of non-communicable diseases.
To further promote health in the workplace, a “Wellness in the Workplace” work out would also ensue. Civil Service Commission-CAR representative Anita Paredes said a memorandum circular was issued to promote a healthy workforce allowing agencies to conduct physical fitness programs for at least 20 minutes every day, or at least two hours per week.
The Department of Labor and Employment in the region is promoting healthy diet in the work place urging them to conducts lectures about healthy diet and the enforcement of establishing a lactation station for every establishment.
Department of Education (DepEd)–CAR spokesperson Geoffrey Palao-ay said the agency is reinforcing the DepEd Order 13, which bans food containing high amounts of saturated fat or sugar or salt and may provide excess energy or calories.
Palao-ay also urged local government units in the region to craft their own ordinances to strengthen the control on the ban of selling unhealthy food within 100 meter radius around the school.
As part of the month long celebration, a nutri-walk hosted by the Department of Health is scheduled on the 4th week of July, to be attended by members of the regional nutrition committee. (Arianne Jo Julaton/UP Baguio intern)
