Official: Anopssai ‘beyond physical competitiveness’

THE staging of this year’s Association of Negros Occidental Private Schools and School Administrators Inc. (Anopssai) meet in Murcia town is beyond physical competitiveness.

It’s a venue for spiritual growth, said Melinda Guanzon, principal of host-Murcia Open Bible Christian Academy, during the opening rites on Wednesday.

Guanzon said it’s only through discipline that they can achieve their goal in this competition.

“It’s not only the discipline of the body but of the spirit. We believe that this is all for the glory of the Lord. Without God, there will be no activity that will occur in this meet,” she added.

Provincial sports coordinator Angel Verdeflor said that by reverting to Palarong Panlalawigan after it was temporarily abolished due to Negros Island Region meet, lots of Negrense athletes will be able to receive support and incentives from the Provincial Government.

“Our governor [Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr.] always wanted to ensure that government support reaches our deserving athletes who bring honor to the province,” he said.

The Provincial Government has also extended financial assistance for the Anopssai meet.

Other officials who witnessed the opening rites were Department of Education-Negros Occidental Assistant Superintendent Gladys Amylaine Sales and Education program supervisor 1 Julito Felicano, in-charge of the Private Schools Division.

The winners in the three-day Anopssai meet will represent Area 10 in next month’s Palarong Panlalawigan. (HGD)
