Official: Waze survey won't affect Cebu tourism

A TOURISM department official said the recent report made by a popular navigation app that listed Cebu as one of the cities in the world that have undesirable traffic situations will not affect the arrival of tourists in the city.

Judy Gabato, DOT Central Visayas officer-in-charge, told reporters that she does not believe that Cebu, which was ranked 186th by Waze's Driver Satisfaction Index 2016, is worse than Metro Manila, which was ranked by the navigation app at 170th.

"In fact, we are better off than Manila when it comes to traffic," Gabato said.

She said that as of the second quarter this year, the number of tourists coming in to Central Visayas has reached three million, more than halfway to the DOT's regional target of 5.8 million visitors for this year.

Gabato said that even with the traffic situation in Cebu, more local and foreign visitors would come. (JKV/SunStar Cebu)
