OFW group opens souvenir shop in Davao City

AN ASSOCIATION of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in Davao City opened a party needs and souvenir shop last week at Tibungco Public Market in Tibungco District, Davao City.

Eduardo Bellido, director of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) in Davao Region said the Panacan-Mudiang-Tibungco OFW Family Circle Association is one of the associations in Davao City that has established its own enterprise.

Bellido said the party needs and souvenir shop displays a variety of balloon decors and designs, bead works, and party needs which are personally made by members of the organization.

He said the group decided to put up the enterprise since most of its members have the skills in balloon-making and bead works.

"The members contributed P500 each for capital, while their president Rosalie Paster trained them in making balloon decors, designs, and various bead works," Bellido said.

He added that Paster completed her bead works, balloon décor and design through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education (Deped).

The Owwa-Davao earlier conducted skills training on bead works, balloon décor and design to former Filipino workers abroad.

Bellido encouraged the OFWs to establish a proper accounting and recording of their sales and expenses to avoid misunderstanding.

As a registered organization the organization is now preparing a project proposal on the equipment and supplies of balloon making and bead works before the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Davao City, he said. (ICT)
