Oil spill spotted off Alegria, Cebu

AN OIL spill was spotted in the seawaters off Barangay Legaspi, Alegria, Cebu, on Thursday morning, June 1.

The spill reportedly came from the sunken cargo vessel LCT Marc Jason III in the nearby waters off Barangay Montañeza, Malabuyoc.

Some Legaspi residents living near the sea smelled a crude oil odor and saw a band of colors past 10 a.m.

LCT Marc Jason III, which is owned by the Jomalia Shipping Company, sank 50 meters from the shoreline of Montañeza last March 23.

The vessel was loaded with sand when it left Tampi, Amlan in Negros Oriental for Sta. Fe in Bantayan Island. It was carrying 3,000 liters of diesel when it capsized. (SunStar Cebu)
