Old abattoir eyed for Bacolod lechon vendors

Bacolod City Administrator John Orola said on Tuesday the City Government is planning to use the old slaughterhouse in Barangay 35 for lechon or roasted pig vendors.

Orola made the statement after Bacolodnon Teresita Besario aired a complaint against a lechon vendor at Barangay Singcang-Airport.

Besario said over Aksyon Radyo Bacolod that on December 31, they ordered roasted pig from Juan’s Lechon, but the lechon was not fit for consumption because of its bad smell.

She added that when they tried to return the roasted pig, the owner refused to accept it.

Orola said the City Government needs to regulate the operations of lechon vendors to protect consumer health.

He added that he already requested the City Council to make a study to use the old slaughterhouse as a lechon area.

The City Government will also require lechon vendors to secure business permit along with clearances from the Bureau of Fire Protection and City Health Office.

Orola encouraged Bacolodnons to buy lechon only from vendors with business.
