Orcollo lives another day in US Open 9-Ball

LAST Filipino standing Dennis Orcollo lived another day after escaping past David Alcaide of Spain, 11-10, in the ongoing 41st Annual Open 9-Ball Championships at Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel in Virginia, U.S.A. Saturday, October 22.

The win came on the heels of beating Chinese Taipei players Y.L. Cheng, 11-5, and Pin-Yi Ko, 11-9, in the over US$200,000 cuefest sanctioned by the World Pool Association. Ko was the one who sent Davao City native Lee Vann Corteza to the losers' side via an 11-8 victory in their winners' bracket clash.

Orcollo's next assignment in the losers' group will be American Shane Van Boening who routed compatriot Jeremy Jones, 11-5, after nipping Fil-Canadian Alex Pagulayan, 11-9.

The Surigao-born Orcollo's other victims include Warren Kiamco of Cebu City (11-2), American J. Bergman (11-9), KL Wu of Chinese Taipei (11-4), Corteza (11-9), Neils Feijen of The Netherlands (11-9) and Vilmos Foldes (11-6) in the losers' side of the tournament.

A former World 8-Ball champion, Orcollo drew a first round bye in the main draw before routing N. Malai, 11-4, but he lost to M. Fortunski, 8-11.
