Oro council reminds ‘Rela’ drivers to follow fare matrix

THE Cagayan de Oro City Council’s committee on public utilities is reminding the ‘motorela’ drivers and operators to heed with the existing city ordinance on automatic adjustment of the privilege fare for regular passengers, senior citizens and students and elementary pupils.

The city ordinance provides the automatic fare adjustment of motorela based on the prevailing local price of gasoline.

Under the ordinance, the privilege fare rate of motorela in the city shall be automatically fixed based on the prevailing local pump prices of gasoline as follows:

Price of Gasoline: P56-P65

Regular fare: P7

Students/Senior Citizens: P6

Persons with disabilities: P3

Price of Gasoline: P40-P55

Regular fare: P6

Students/Senior Citizens: P5

Persons with disabilities: P2

Price of Gasoline: P26-P39

Regular fare: P5

Students/Senior Citizens: P4

Persons with disabilities: P2

Price of Gasoline: P11-P25

Regular fare: P4

Students/Senior Citizens: P4

Persons with disabilities: P2

Stipulated also in the ordinance that no motorela driver shall demand fare from passengers without a fare matrix conspicuously displayed inside the motorela issued for the purpose by the Motorela Licensing Division of the City Mayor’s office.

Committee chair Councilor Roger Abaday warns erring drivers that penalties corresponds for every violation committed.

“Angay gayud motuman ang mga drivers kay ordinansa kini,” Abaday said.

Drivers who overcharged passengers will be fined P1,000 and possible revocation of permit.

Gasoline prices in most fuel stations in the city plays at P39.00 to less than P40.00 per liter as of press time.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Motorela Operators and Drivers in Cagayan de Oro (Femodco) will file its petition to amend and suspend the automatic fare adjustment and matrix before the committee on public utilities.

Femodco president Paul Cempron said the rollback in gasoline prices continue yet the prices on basic and essential commodities have remained high.

“Ang gitan-aw sauna pag-approve ana nga matrix mao ang basihanan sa presyo sa gasoline pero dili naman applicable karon kay we are expecting moubos sad ang presyo sa mga basic commodities pero wala man alkansi gihapon kami mga rela drivers,” Cempron said.

Cempron also said they want the ordinance amended due to some discrepancy in the price bracketing.

“Sa bracketing lang daan contestible na kay karon 39 pesos pero naa pay something nga centavo nga duol na pud sa P40 dapat unta ang bracket example is P26.00-P38.99,” Cempron said.

Cempron said as soon as complaints arise on the fare matrix, it would prompt them to file immediately their petition in the city council.

“Kung kining 6 pesos wala moreklamo kay naa paman ta sa contestible computation of the scheme dili sa gayud ta magpursige. Wala gayud tay problema sa adjustment basta naa pud unta pag-ubos sa mga presyo sa basic commodities,” Cempron added.
