Oro elementary, secondary teams advance to finals

CAGAYAN de Oro’s elementary and secondary teams recorded contrasting victories in the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) semis to barge into the finals at the Rosevale School pitch at the Xavier Estates Uptown.

The elementary boys team showed no mercy to the visiting Ginggoog City squad as they flooded them with six goals to advance to the championship match against a tough Valencia City which earlier mowed down Misamis Oriental, 4-1.

Once again, ‘Super’ Sam Salingay and Vinson ‘The Silent’ Assassin led the Oro elementary kids as they trashed the Gingoog boys from the start and never looked back.

Salingay, a recruit of coach Mario Sumampong of Rosevale School from Gingoog City scored two goals while Manubag, a product of Rosevale’s excellent football program scored one goal early. The scoring due have score in all CdO’s matches in the elimination round.

Carlo Bongocan, Aaron Magadan and Andy Lugod also scored one goal each to complete the rout.

So far, Oro’s goalkeeper Ranwinque Gementiza has been superb between the sticks as he has kept a clean sheet from the elims. The CdO elementary lads defeated Iligan, 5-0, Misamis Occidental, 2-0, Misamis Oriental, 5-0, and Bukidnon, 4-0.

The Corpus Christi bannered CdO secondary team has to rely on the last gasp header goal from Miguel Hojas to rip Valencia, 1-0 and secure a championship shot against Misamis Occidental which defeated Bukidnon, 2-0 in the other semis match.
