Oro’s martial arts rookies see action in Mumma Dumaguete

SOME eleven rookie bets from the Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts (Mumma) will have their first ever out-of-town exposure in the Muay Thai National Championships 2017, starting today in Dumaguete City.

Composing the Cagayan de Oro-based delegation are Katrina Limbaroc, 17; Angelie Sabanal, 27; Kirby Pungtod, 32; Haresh Frederick Dela Serna,29); Gianni Luis Garrido, 20; Chaz Mayo, 19 and Joshua Jude Paclar, 18.

Joining them are Paul Galupe, 18; Jasper Ray Navarro, 31; Denver Russel Fabroa, 18 and Yncent Pol Calibjo, 23.

All of them will fight in the novice categories of the four-day tourney sanctioned by the Muay Thai Association of the Philippines (MAP).

“First time na sila modula wala silang mga experience ug mga student man na namo sa gym. Among gi-encourage na mag-try pag compete (It is their first time to play, they o=don’t have any experience and they are our students in gym. We encouraged them to compete),” said Beh Barothy Hung, manager and owner of Mumma.

Meanwhile, Mumma’s prize muay thai fighter Ely Fernandez will also see action in his first out-of-town jiu-jitsu fight in the first Caraga Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi and No Gi Invitational 2017 on Saturday, July 15, at the Robinsons Mall in Butuan City.

The 20-year-old Fernandez, who won a silver medal in the World Muay Boran Championships this year, will test his martial arts prowess to complete his training for a possible inclusion in the world of mixed martial arts soon.

“He needs to venture in different types of it basin mo-excel sab siya sa MMA (Mixed Martial Arts),” said Hung.
