Oro’s water supply nearly back to normal

THE Rio Verde Water Consortium Inc. (RVWCI) is now back to supplying about 40,000 cubic meters of water per day, two weeks since faucets have dried up in the western parts of Cagayan de Oro City.

Engineer Joffrey Hapitan, RVCWI senior vice president for operations, said that although Rio Verde has been supplying more than 40,000 cubic meters per day, since Saturday, October 7, some areas in the

this city still has no water supply.

The water supply is delivered to the Cagayan de Oro City Water District's (COWD) take-off point at Pueblo de Oro.

"We have already complied with our basic obligation to COWD," Hapitan said, adding the distribution of the water supply is now up to COWD.

"As to the overall status of water supply in the western area, it is the responsibility of the service provider which is the COWD," he added.

But engineer Bienvenido Batar, COWD assistant general manager, said the water has still not reached Lumbia Village, including the Youngsville Subdivision and Pagibig Citihomes in Opol town, Misamis Oriental.

Batar said this is because pressure at the delivery point is "practically zero".

"Water supply is back, but it cannot reach far areas, because water pressure is zero. And we need the pressure gayud for water to reach the affected households," Batar said.

Construction of cofferdam is in progress, while repair of the damaged underwater pipe will start on Wednesday, and will be completed on October 15.

It can be recalled that the pipeline was damaged due to earthquake and water current of the Cagayan river.
