Osmeña proclaimed as mayor-elect of Cebu City

CEBU -- (Updated) -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Board of Canvassers proclaimed Tomas Osmeña as mayor-elect of Cebu City on Tuesday, May 10.

Based on Comelec-GMA 7 mirror server tally, Osmeña of the Liberal Party (LP) won the mayoralty race with 266,556 votes, dethroning Michael Rama of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) who got 232,641 votes.

Supporters greeted and congratulated Osmeña and his wife, City Councilor Margot, when they arrived at the canvassing center at the City Hall prior the proclamation.

Osmeña made a comeback after he lost to Rama in the May 13, 2013 mayoral election.

Osmeña, the grandson of the late President Sergio Osmeña, served as mayor of Cebu City from 1988 to 1995 and from 2001 to 2010.

Meanwhile, UNA's Edgardo Labella was re-elected as the city vice mayor. Labella, who garnered 251,912 votes, edged LP's Nestor Archival who got 222,116 votes.

Cebu City Councilors

It was an equal fight for the Cebu councilorial seats first district as LP grabs the top four spots namely Alvin Arcilla with 103,000 votes, Mary Ann de los Santos with 101,388 votes, Bebs Andales with 100,563 votes, and Joy Young with 96,804 votes.

The remaining seats belong to UNA: Jerry Guardo with 96,145 votes, Raymond Garcia with 95,153 votes, Jun Alcover with 92,693 votes, and Joel Garganera with 92,432 votes.

For the second district, majority of the UNA candidates grabbed the councilorial seats with two from LP.

The councilors from UNA are: Dave Tumulak with 144,727 votes, Edu Rama with 13,498 votes, Joey Daluz with 133,155 votes, Hanz-aha Abella with 132,636 votes, James Cuenco with 119,384, and Joy Pesquerra with 116,926 votes.

The councilors from LP are Margot Osmeña with 143,066 votes and Jun Gabuya with 129,293 votes. [View latest tally for Cebu City race] (DDA/Sunnex)
