Owwa Tacloban accepts nomination for 'model OFW family' awards

CATBALOGAN CITY -- The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) in Eastern Visayas now accepts nominations for the 2017 Model OFW Family of the Year Award (Mofya).

In a statement issued Tuesday, July 25, the Owwa said the group who may nominate an OFW family must be a registered non-government organization, people’s organization, religious organization or association, community-based socio-civic organization/association and OFW Family Circle.

“To qualify as nominee, the OFW must be the head of the nuclear family, could be the father or mother, the OFW family is known as a solid and stable family in the community, the OFW family should be financially stable and... the OFW family must be actively involved in community projects,” said the Owwa.

It added that previous regional Mofya nominees can be nominated for the second time only after two years. "Nominees must not be related up to the third degree of consanguinity and affinity to officials and employees of Owwa, Department of Labor and Employment, and its attached agencies and social partners of Mofya.”

Those who will qualify as nominees will be screened and selected based on the following criteria: wholesomeness of OFW family, success in education or profession of OFW and/or family member/s, success in managing family finances and civic/community involvement of OFW and family.

Two Mofya regional winners will be selected to represent Eastern Visayas in the national awarding. One will be from the Land-based category and the other one will be under the Sea-based category, the Owwa said.

Deadline for nomination is August 18, while the regional screening and selection process will be on August 21-31.

The Mofya award aims to give due recognition to the outstanding achievements of the OFWs and their families, to promote success stories about the OFW families’ resilience amid the challenges of overseas employment, and to highlight the role of the OFW family acting as a group or unit in the attainment of socio-civic, educational, professional and material success.
