P13-M CCTVs to be installed in Davao City

SOME P13 million worth of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed by the Davao City Government in a bid to improve security in the city.

Installation of CCTV cameras in eight public markets, Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT), Davao City Recreation Center, Magsaysay Park, Santa Ana Wharf, and Pasalubong Center is ongoing.

The procurement of the rotating and steady CCTV cameras was done in Agust last year.

Davao City Economic Enterprises (DCEE) officer-in-charge Maribeth Lumactod, said in an interview with SunStar Davao on Friday, January 27, that the installation of wiring and cables for the CCTV cameras are ongoing.

"These CCTV cameras will be tapped by the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC)," Lumactod said, adding that it was also the major suggestion of PSSCC chief retired General Benito de Leon.

Among the eight markets included Bangkerohan, Agdao, Calinan, Toril, Tibungco, Lasang, Bunawan, and Mintal. Cameras will be placed inside and outside the markets.

Lumactod said that this development can reduce number of untoward incidents in designated areas.

A staff from the DCEE also said that the installation of CCTV cameras in DCOTT is almost done as it was prioritized.

DCOTT head Aisa Yusop told SunStar in September 2016 that 20 additional cameras were set to be installed inside the terminal.

She said the installation of additional 20 CCTV cameras is part of strengthening their security measures inside the terminal.

Lumactod added that construction of the DCOTT perimeter fence will begin next week.
