P29-M fund allocated to build houses for displaced residents

Published on:

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar announced that the National Housing Authority (NHA) has committed to allocate P29 million to help the City Government in addressing the needs of the internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Salazar said NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada made the commitment when they recently met.

Salazar said the P29-million funding allocation will be used to purchase a lot for the housing project.

The mayor said the City Government will purchase the Chiong property in the village of Sta. Barbara where permanent shelters will be constructed under the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R).

The Z3R is the blueprint for the permanent shelters intended for the siege-displaced families.

The village of Sta. Barbara was among the most affected areas when hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front members attacked Zamboanga City on September 21, 2013.

The City Government said there are still around 4,000 families housed in 12 transitory sites in the city. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
