CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Central Luzon and the Provincial Government have allotted P9.5 million for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) this year.
Dole said 1,525 students who come from indigent families will be the recipients of the program, which is aimed at providing work opportunity to college students during school breaks.
Luningning Vergara, provincial manager of the Public Employment Services Office (Peso), said that beneficiaries of the program are required to work for 20 days and they will receive P6,200 or P310 per day.
Sixty percent of their salary will come from Dole and 40 percent will be subsidized by the Provincial Government.
Vergara said the program is one of the priorities of Governor Lilia Pineda to help poor but deserving students to finish college.
“The Provincial Government allotted a bigger budget for this program compared to other LGUs in the region because the salary of the students will be able to cover partial payment and expenses during enrollment,” said Vergara.
The recipients of the program will do community development work, conduct survey and encode data for the skills registry system of Peso. (Jenna Lumbang-Parungao/Pampanga PIO)
