Palace calls for 'peaceful, orderly' pro-revolutionary government rallies

MALACAÑANG on Thursday, November 30, urged President Rodrigo Duterte's supporters who are pushing for the establishment of a revolutionary government to conduct their demonstrations in a "peaceful and orderly" manner.

"The Chief Executive in numerous occasions articulated that he allows protests and other forms of mass action as long as public safety and convenience are not compromised," Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

"We ask those who would join in today’s demonstrations calling for a revolutionary government to conduct their rallies in a peaceful, orderly manner," he added.

As the country commemorates the 154th birth anniversary of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio on November 30, pro-administration supporters will hold various rallies in key cities across the country to convince Duterte to declare a revolutionary government.

On the other hand, anti-government groups will also stage protest actions to take a stand against several issues, including the proposal to implement a revolutionary type of state.

Roque said police officers would observe maximum tolerance and exercise highest restraint to ensure peaceful conduct of rallies.

Duterte has repeatedly warned that he will declare a revolutionary government, if his detractors attempt to destabilize his administration.

At the same time, he has also repeatedly assured that he will not impose a revolutionary government.

Roque said that while the President already made it clear that he would not set up a revolutionary government, the latter would not stop advocates from holding demonstrations.

"The President has earlier said that he does not want a revolutionary government. This, however, does not mean he would prevent citizens from expressing their support for a revolutionary government," Roque said. (SunStar Philippines)
