Palace hands-off on China's probe on donor of drug rehab in PH

THE Philippine government will not intervene in China's investigation into the alleged corruption involvement of a Chinese billionaire who funded the Philippines' mega drug rehabilitation center, MalacaƱang said Wednesday.

Speaking to Palace reporters, Communications Assistant Secretary Marie Banaag said corruption allegation against Huang Rulun is an "internal" issue to China.

Banaag, however, assured that the Duterte administration is one with the Chinese government in fighting against corruption.

"On Huang Rulun's implication on corruption charges, that is, of course, internal to China," Banaag said.

"Rest assured that President Duterte is one with President of the People's Republic of China in its drive against corruption," he added.

A report by Financial Times said Huang is now facing investigation by Beijing for alleged bribery.

Huang, a Chinese real estate billionaire, has donated P1.4 billion for the construction of the 100-square-meter mega drug treatment and rehabilitation center at a military camp in Laur, Nueva Ecija. (SunStar Philippines)
