Palace turns down Roxas-Aquino tandem

MALACAÑANG rejected Wednesday the proposal by a lawmaker for Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II to tap President Benigno Aquino III as his running mate in next year's polls.

Cavite Representative Elpidio Barzaga reportedly said that Aquino could be the best running mate for Roxas, the administration presidential bet in the 2016 elections.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that Aquino has always stated that he will retire from public office by the end of his term at noon of June 30, 2016.

"To the best of my knowledge, he has made no pronouncements to the contrary," he said.

Barzaga reportedly said the Roxas-Aquino tandem "would be a dream ticket."

Roxas has been offering Senator Grace Poe to be his running mate, but the latter has not yet made any decision. (SDR/Sunnex)
