Palo, Leyte extends suspension of classes till Jan. 18

PALO, Leyte -- The local government unit of Palo, Leyte has ordered the extension of suspension of classes in pre-elementary, elementary and secondary schools both private and public in the said municipality until, Wednesday, January 18.

Palo Mayor Remedios Petilla, through an executive order, extended the suspension of classes as recommended by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).

The presence of inundation in low-lying areas and in some major thoroughfares in the locality and the presence of floodwaters which may pose risk to school children prompted the MDRRMC to recommend the extension.

Classes in college and work in government offices, however, will resume Wednesday, January 18.

To recall, classes and work in government offices in the municipalities of Palo, Tanauan and nearby towns as well as in the City of Tacloban were suspended Tuesday due to extensive flooding caused by heavy rains brought by the tail end of a cold front affecting Eastern Visayas region and the two low pressure areas which have dissipated.
