Pangan: A big blunder

AFTER several previous anomalies which beset the Philippine government comes another probable big anomaly consummated during the previous Aquino administration but which is investigated in full light in the present Duterte administration.

At the center of the controversy is Dengvaxia, purportedly an effective vaccine which propelled the national immunization program of the government. Already, some 700,000 public school children were inoculated which turn out that the vaccine should have been administered to those who have had bouts of dengue and not to those who have not had the ailment before the inoculations.

Columinist Betsy Tiglao of the Manila Bulletin titled her column thus:

Dengvaxia scandal: a clear case of government apathy. Considering the cost of the vaccines, said to have been acquired by the Aquino government for P3.5 billion from Sanofi Pasteur, it is conceivable that an official or a group of individuals must have earned a huge amount of commissions from the vaccine which would wreck havoc on public school children's health. And to think they were treated like guinea pigs for testing of the oppressive vaccine!

Ms. Tiglao lamented: with the haste in which the Aquino administration

implemented its wide-scale dengue vaccination program-ignoring warnings from medical experts and without a recommendation from the World Health Organization -- otherwise healthy children who received Dengvaxia now carry the burden of a possible "severe case" of dengue if they contract the disease.

Such dire warnings not heeded by super greedy officials of the Aquino administration and now suffer the public school children.

The present Health Secretary Francisco Duque III wants the government to ask Sanofi Pasteur to refund the government of some P1.4 billion worth of unused Dengvaxia. The government should act pronto to do this since its appears that the P3.5 billion used to buy Dengvaxia reportedly was realigned from other government savings, a practice the Supreme Court has ruled as unconstitutional as in the case of the Disbursement Acceleration Program.

Both the honorable houses of Congress are scheduled to conduct on this huge anomaly. Do it, honorables, pronto and prosecute all the perpetrators.

I represented Peso Manager Bernard B. delos Reyes to the graduation rites of Masonry and Solar Panel Installation trainees conducted by MCA Kin Builders and Trading on December 7, 2017 at Jade Hall, Xevera. Executive Assistant Patrick Fiel Sacay delivered a very inspiring speech wherein he narrated his climb to his present position, starting out as a Kagawad of Barangay Poblacion, Mabalacat City.
