Pangan: The current run of MSMEs

ON THE local front, medium, small and micro enterprises (MSMEs) seem to be going strong.

Here in Pampanga, top officials are giving these enterprises the necessary boost and support these modest outfits’ need in the face of competition from giant companies.

The Provincial Small and Medium Enterprises Council in Pampanga acknowledged the support of Governor Lilia Pineda and Second

District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. And based on the 2017 Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index results, it has been shown that Pampanga has the most competitive

SMEs in Central Luzon.

Governor Pineda has offered loans even to ailing SMEs while she expressed willingness to aid these in order to bail them out of their financial problems. She asked the PSMDC to teach these SMEs to steer clear of losses and the Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Science and Technology to assist them so as to me them strong and competitive.

For her part, Congresswoman Arroyo expressed elation due to the good results of SMEs she helped grow.

Rizal province is still number one in competitiveness in the national level, but with the overwhelming support of these two top officials, the government agencies and other stakeholders. Pampanga can catch up in the next ranking. Luid ka, Pampanga!

Au contraire, the move to liberalize retail trade in favor of foreign investors would likely to affect local MSMEs.

Definitely, the SMEs would be at a disadvantage due to the massive funds of foreign investors which they bring in as the government allows their entry into the retail business.

This early, it should put built-in measures to check on the capitalization disparity between the SMEs and the foreign investors.

Additionally, our present giant retail firms should look into ways to help their small counterparts to level the playing field.
