Parents of 16 minors nabbed in gang riot to face charges

AUTHORITIES plan to file a case against parents of minors for their negligence to monitor their children, who were arrested Saturday dawn, April 22, by the police while they were about to engage in a gang riot at Bagong Buhay Village, Davao City.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) City Director Alexander Tagum told SunStar Davao that on Monday they will file appropriate charges against the parents of 16 minors, aging 16 and 17.

Aside from the parents, Tagum said they will also file a case against the suspects for alarm and scandal and illegal possession of bladed weapons.

He added that their office is closely coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the rehabilitation of the minors as well as the village officials for a more holistic approach in addressing the problem of gangs in the city.

At present, they are conducting an intensified intelligence gathering to identify the profile and background of the leaders of different gangs in the city.

Earlier this week, the Mobile Patrol Group also arrested 11 other minors who were engaged in a riot at corner Sta. Ana Avenue and J.P. Laurel Avenue. The riot reportedly started at Clifford Park along Roxas Avenue. (JCR)
