Parklane eyes triathlon in Oslob

THE Cebu Parklane International Hotel will hosting a triathlon race dubbed Hunat Sugbu Tri in October in Oslob.

Allan Ting, a member of the board of directors of Parklane, said that most of the major triathlon races over the years have been held in the northern Cebu in Bantayan Island, Tabuelan, Sogod, Danao, Liloan and San Remegio and he wants to bring it down South.

“Thats why I had an initial talk with Mayor Ronald Guarin about his town hosting our

Hunat sa Sugbu Tri,” Ting said.

Ting added that he plans to hold the start at the Cuartel Heritage Park Near Oslob’s centuries-old Cuartel .

“This can help promote not only sports tourism in the town but as well as help promote the richness of the town in terms of culture and heritage,” Ting said.

Nowadays, Oslob has been a prime tourist destination because of the presence of the whale sharks in the area.

“Our participants will not encounter any problem with their billeting because Oslob has several affordable resorts that they can stay in. I believe Oslob is really an ideal place to host our race,” Ting said.

Ting is a member of the Parklane Tri team that won the over-all championship title in the Cebu Loves Tri Team Championship Series in Bantayan Island, Cebu.

Oslob will be the second municipality in the southern part of Cebu to host a triathlon race. The first one was Dalaguete last February, when several triathletes clamored to have more races held in the southern part of Cebu.

“This is a good development as it will also feature the towns in Southern Cebu,” said multi-awarded triathlete Ralph Arche.
