PDEA scores big in war vs drugs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Central Luzon has scored big in its war against illegal drugs in Pampanga.

In his report to the Provincial Board led by Vice Governor Dennis Pineda over the weekend at Capitol, PDEA regional director Jeffrey Tacio disclosed that the agency's 3rd quarter accomplishments covered a total of 181 anti-drug operations, leading to a seizure of P3,158,556.48 worth of illegal substance.

The combined PDEA-Philippine National Police operations, Tacio disclosed, was a mix of 133 buy busts; five search warrants; 41 casings and surveillance; and two test buys.

"Shabu or methamphetine hydrochloride remains to be the drug of choice with the PNP seizing 24.0607 grams and PDEA 480.9746 grams for a total of P3,030,211.80. Next is marijuana with PNP’s seizure of 36.104 grams and PDEA’s 2,816 grams totaling P128,344.68. The operations included the seizure of hundreds of marijuana bricks in a warehouse in Barangay San Agustin in the City of San Fernando," Tacio said.

Even as some 133 barangays in the province are still affected by illegal drugs, he said that the PNP and PDEA were able to neutralize drug groups and arrested 56 pushers and possessors in high impact operations that yielded not only illegal drugs but guns and grenades as well.

While begging off from naming the priority areas, Tacio told Sun.Star Pampanga that the PDEA has been on the tail of identified drug dealers and couriers operating in the province.

"That is why we are enjoining everyone from the academe to the church to common folk to participate in our advocacy to fight illegal drugs.

Ang laban kontra droga ay sadyang masalimuot. Kung sama-sama, kaya nating labanan," he said.

Meanwhile, Vice Governor Pineda vowed to support PDEA with additional logistics and incentives in its operations.
