THE Philippines national team blanked host-Brunei, 3-0 in the opening day of the U14 Regional Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Festival of Football 2015 at Bander Seri Begawan in Brunei Darussalam.
Rob Cyrow Delima of Negros Occidental Football Association opened the Pinoys’ scoring in the sixth minute before Jethro Borlongan of Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental FA added another in the eighth minute. Laguna’s Jan Vincent Nico Quintana scored the third goal to seal its opening day victory.
The Philippine side played Timor-Leste yesterday and were scheduled against Myanmar next.
The football festival, which ends August 22, is primarily focused in the development of the sport rather than competition and provide a continuous development pathway of players from the grassroots level to elite.
The event intends to enhance the role of the youth development program within member associations and provide a platform to discover and recruit talented young coaches and referees. It will also increase in the overall standard of performance of Asia competing on the global stage like the Fifa World Cup.
The Nationals are mentored by head coach Eliezer Fabroada, assistant coaches Laurence Dave Gerali, and John Michael Castaños.
