Pikit mayor indicted for SALN perjury

THE Office of the Ombudsman has found probable cause to indict a mayor from North Cotabato for perjury due to misdeclarations on his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).

Based from press released by Ombudsman last January 6, 2016, Pikit, North Cotabato Mayor Sumulong Sultan was indicted for the omission of material information in his 2011 SALN.

Investigators found that Sultan failed to disclose in his SALN several properties consisting of an agricultural land, P1.2-million Toyota Hilux and P1.3-million Toyota Fortuner.

“Under the Revised Penal Code, perjury is committed when the declarant omits to declare material information that is required of him under the oath” the press release said.

It also added that “In this case, “respondent committed the offense when he omitted the foregoing properties in his 2011 SALN with the intent that it should be received as a statement that was true despite its falsity.” (KVC)
