Pinoys in Thailand urged to take safety precautions

THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has placed Thailand under the Crisis Alert Level 1 following the bomb explosion in Bangkok on Monday that killed at least 20 people and injured 123 others, including a Filipino.

Alert level 1, according to the department, is raised when there are "valid signs" of internal disturbance, instability, or external threat to the host country.

“Filipinos are alerted to take necessary precautions,” said the DFA.

Filipinos are also advised to avoid several areas identified by the Thai police.

These are Rajaprasong Intersection; Patumwan Intersection; Silom Road; Khao San Road; Narathiwat Intersection; Victory Monument; Tuk Chai Intersection; Benjasiri Park; Soi Thong Lor; and Sukhumvit Road.

The DFA assured that the Philippine government is ready to extend assistance to the estimated 15,000 Filipinos in Thailand.

“The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok is ready to extend assistance, if necessary,” the agency said. (HDT/Sunnex)
