THE Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company is upgrading its facility to boost the internet connection of Zamboanga City, the Zamboanga Peninsula’s hub for investment and Business Processing Outsourcing.
PLDT area supervisor Fred Merisco, in a Small and Medium Enterprises-Zamboanga Peninsula Core Group meeting, said the PLDT central office has approved the implementation of a redundant fiber optic line from Zamboanga City to Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay.
The upgrading project will address internet connection slowdown in the city.
Merciso said the upgrade will start next month and the target completion date is by December this year. The fiber optic cables for Zamboanga City “are now available.”
Merisco said another 100 gigabytes data capacity will be added for Zamboanga City to cater to corporate lines once the project is completed.
Local PLDT subscribers have been complaining of slow internet speeds for the past weeks, which Merisco said it was due to the ongoing road widening program of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
He said PLDT is also eyeing to put a third link connecting Zamboanga City to Cotabato City. (Bong Garcia)
