PLEB set to resolve pending cases

THE People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) in Bacolod City is expected to resolve pending cases before the end of the year.

Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairman of PLEB, said Wednesday, May 3 that they have already heard 18 cases and three cases were disposed on Friday, April 28.

He said some of the cases were filed in 1997 and 1998 yet against erring policemen of Bacolod City Police Office.

Complainants included administrative offenses, illegal detention, and abuse of authority.

Other members of the PLEB include Granada village chief Alfredo Talimodao Jr., representing the barangay, lawyer Jovim Entila of Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Negros Occidental Chapter, former councilor Celia Flor of the women’s sector and Antonio Te from the private sector.

PLEB, established by virtue of Republic Act Nos. 6975 and 8551, is the central receiving entity for any citizen’s complaint against the officers and members of the Philippine National Police.

It conducts hearings, resolve, and decision on cases filed against erring police officers.

Tan said they conducted an inventory of all the pending cases and they will give priority to those 10 years and above.

He said the previous PLEB members failed to resolve the pending cases and some of the complainants are already dead while some of the respondents, who are policemen, have retired from service.

PLEB holds hearings every Friday.
