Plunder raps vs PNoy 'patently absurd' - Valte

ABIGAIL Valte, former deputy presidential spokesperson of President Benigno Aquino III, called the plunder and graft charges against the former president as "patently absurd."

On her social media accounts, Friday, January 6, Valte also called those who will attempt to let the former President respond to the plunder and graft charges as "baliw" or crazy.

"Sana ay hindi na piliting pasagutin pa ang dating Pangulo, dahil napaalala sa amin ang kasabihang ito sa Tagalog: 'ang pumatol sa baliw, mas baliw'," Valte said.

On Friday, lawyer Fernando Perito and former Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) examiner Rogelio Cantoria filed plunder and graft complaints against Aquino, former Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary and now Senator Leila de Lima, former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Manuel Roxas II, and Senator Franklin Drilon.

Also charged were current BSP Governor Amando Tetangco Jr., former Department of Finance (DOF) secretary Cesar Purisima, and Treasury Department chief dealer Lorelei Fernandez.

The complaint stemmed from an alleged illegal shipment of US$141-billion worth of gold bars to Thailand which was supposedly intercepted in the Union Bank of Switzerland in December 2014.

The two said they filed the complaints based on a BSP circular which went "viral" on social media.

One of this alleged post is from the account of Kingdom Filipina Hacienda Sovereign Host Nation posted in May 2016.

But Valte said the basis of the complaint is absurd since "it came from a fake news site."

She said the complaint allegedly named a Department of Nutrition and Local Government and identified de Lima as secretary of finance.

"How does one answer a complaint so patently absurd on its face? It defies logic, which is not surprising since it came from a fake news site. First, there is no Department of Nutrition and Local Government. Second, the Secretary of Justice and Secretary of Interior and Local Government are not members of the Monetary Board," she said.

"Even the law alleged to have been violated - Republic Act 7655 - has nothing to do with the supposed crime. RA 7655 is the law that raised the minimum wage for househelpers. The blatant disregard for simple facts is telling of the provenance of the allegations. Sana ay hindi na piliting pasagutin pa ang dating pangulo, dahil napaalala sa amin ang kasabihang ito sa Tagalog: ang pumatol sa baliw, mas baliw," she said. (VLA/Sunnex)
