PNP chief vows to dismiss Cebu cop caught gambling in casino

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Ronald dela Rosa said Monday, January 29, that he will ensure the policewoman who was caught gambling in a casino in Cebu City will be dismissed from the service.

“Despite our warning, meron pa rin matigas ang ulo, isang policewoman sa Cebu pumasok and per information from the management of the casino habitual client daw talaga nila ‘yun (A policewoman entered a casino and per information from the management, she is a regular client),” he said.

“Palagi gabi-gabi nandun kaya she deserved her fate and I will make sure na madi-dismiss ang policewoman na yan at meron pang isang konsehal ng Cebu nahuli rin. Bahala sila basta we are just following the instructions of the president (She is allegedly the casino every night so she deserved her fate. I will make sure that she is dismissed),” he added.

On Thursday, January 25, police arrested Police Officer 2 Cyrelle Marie Bayate , 30, while playing inside a hotel casino in Cebu City.

Bayate is assigned at the Cebu City police station 1 on Sikatuna Street, Barangay Pari-an.

The policewoman was charged for violation of the Presidential Decree 1869 and Memorandum Circular Number 6, which prohibits all government officials and employees from gambling in the casinos.

Bayate’s arrest came a day after Dela Rosa led the ceremonial unveiling of warning signs that prohibit government employees from entering casinos in accordance with the order of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Dela Rosa urged his men to follow the order or be removed from the service.

He said the government is stepping up its fight against gambling particularly by the employees of the government as it could be a cause for corruption. (SunStar Philippines)
