PNP: Dela Rosa has 'trust, confidence' in Davao cops

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) spokesperson Dionardo Carlos said Tuesday that PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa's "trust and confidence" to the Davao City policemen could be the reason why he wanted them to be assigned to Caloocan City Police Office (CCPO).

"I think it's the trust and confidence of Davao PNP. Alam niya kung paano sila magtrabaho (he knows how they work)," he said.

During his visit at the Davao City Police Office headquarters in Camp Quintin Merecido last Monday, Dela Rosa asked for volunteers from the Davao police who want a voluntary assignment to Caloocan City.

Dela Rosa told the Davao policemen that he badly needs their help in addressing the situation in Caloocan City.

On Friday, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Oscar Albayalde ordered the relief of all the cops assigned at the CCPO following the death of 17-year-old Kian Delos Santos and 19-year-old Carl Angelo Arnaiz and the robbery of a residential house by policemen.

Delos Santos was killed in an incident Caloocan police claims to be a shootout but witnesses said there was no encounter between the cops and the teenager and that he was intentionally killed while kneeling down.

Arnaiz, on the other hand, was killed after reportedly trying to fire at the cops who were trying to arrest him over a robbery complaint of a taxi driver.

However, based on the account of the taxi driver, he brought Arnaiz to the police station alive and that his killing which is based on the claim of the policemen might be scripted.

Another witness also said he saw Arnaiz alighting from a police mobile in the area where he was found dead.

Carlos said they are still waiting for orders from the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) regarding the assignment of the Davao policemen to Caloocan.

"I don't think 'yung entire (Davao) PNP. 'Yung magbuo lang ng core group that can perform the duties in Caloocan," he said. (SunStar Philippines)
