SENATOR Grace Poe said Thursday she is no longer expecting that President Benigno Aquino III will back her in next year's presidential elections.
“It’s difficult to expect because it’s also hard to be disappointed,” Poe told reporters.
She said she would not be surprised if the President will endorse Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II, presumptive candidate of the administration Liberal Party (LP).
Poe and Roxas are among the President's reported choices as successor in 2016.
"I will not be surprised if the President will endorse Secretary Mar (Roxas) because first and foremost, they are party-mates,” the senator said. “Whatever the President’s decision will be, I know he has reasons for that. Still, I am thankful that he considered me (to be endorsed for 2016 polls)."
Poe, who recently topped the surveys among potential presidential candidates, has yet to decide if she would seek higher post next year.
She reiterated that she has to ensure first that she is fully prepared before announcing her 2016 plans.
Poe and Aquino met four times but no consensus was reached.
The senator said there is no indication that they would meet again. (Sunnex)
