Police: 30 percent of villages to be declared drug-free

A TOP official announced that the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) is set to declare 30 percent of the 98 villages in this city as drugs-free areas.

ZCPO Director Luisito Magnaye said they conduct weekly evaluation and review on all villages based on the parameters the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) has set in declaring drug-free a particular village.

Magnaye said the parameters of a drug-free declaration included that there must be no more pushers or users staying in the village.

The police official said they have recorded around 2,000 pushers and users who surrendered during the implementation of Oplan Tokhang (Toktok-Hangyo or knock and plead) the past months in the city.

He asked the community to help them in coming up with rehabilitation programs for drug surrenderees in their respective villages.

Magnaye said the rehab programs must be geared towards free-vices living, especially free from the use of illegal drugs. (Sunnex)
