Police arrest drug suspects, gun holder

CAMP BADO Dangwa, Benguet -- Police Regional Office – Cordillera (PRO-Cor) sustained the momentum in clearing Cordillera from drug personalities and criminals following the arrest of two drug pushers and a gun holder over the weekend in separate operations.

Joint PNP personnel of Ifugao Provincial Public Safety Company (IPPSC), Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Unit (PAIDU), Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) and Lagawe Municipal Police Station arrested Lawrence Alindayo in Lagawe, Ifugao in the early morning of October 22 by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Romeo Habbiling, Executive Judge of RTC branch 14, Lagawe, Ifugao for violation of RA 9165. Operatives confiscated drug paraphernalia in his possession.

In a buy-bust operation, drug trader identified as Mark Carlo Bergavera Serrano, 28, from Sta. Rosa, Laguna and presently residing at Campo Sioco, Baguio City was nabbed in the night of the same day at Hillside, Baguio City.

Operatives of the City Anti-Illegal Drug Unit (CAIDU) confiscated two heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia from his possession.

On the other hand, a gun holder identified as Augusto Naweywey Dangadang, 40, building administrator/contractor, and a resident of Holyghost Extension Baguio City was arrested in the afternoon of the same day at East Middle Quirino Hill Baguio City for illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions.

Personnel of Police Station 2, Baguio City Police Office confiscated black pistol Bersa Ultra Compact 40 with Serial no. B23348 inserted with magazine loaded with seven ammunitions with expired license and no permit to carry outside the residence.

Alindayo and Serrano were charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 while Dangadang was charged for illegal possession of firearms.

Regional Director Police Chief Superintendent Elmo Francisco Sarona urged all units to continue to monitor any presence of illegal activities especially drug trade and use immediate action to rid the region from drug menace.

Meanwhile, six personnel were awarded for their exemplary service to the PNP and the gallantry they displayed during this morning’s Monday Traditional Flag Raising Ceremony.

Police Senior Inspector Jenelyn Kiwingan was awarded with the Medalya ng Kasanayan for being adjudged as one of the ten outstanding policewomen in the country for year 2016 by the Zonta Club of Makati.

Her significant accomplishment placed the PRO-COR in the limelight and a manifestation of credibility and competence. She is worthy of emulation.

Police Superintendent Mark Pespes, Police Chief Inspector George Antonio; PO3 Geliza Moyao, PO2 Rodelyn Verdadero and PO2 Nestymar Taasin received the Medalya ng Papuri with their dedication, commitment, and devotion to duty in fighting Illegal drugs.

PRO-Cor has vowed to make Cordillera a safer place by fighting illegal drugs and crime, which is gaining headway in the region because of the support of concerned citizens. A total of 8,905 drug personalities surrendered, 316 arrested, 12 killed during police operations, and 57 deceased since the implementation of Oplan Double Barrel on July 1, 2016. (PRO-COR RPIO)
