Police: Badac should encourage drug users to undergo rehab

THE police will focus on reducing the demand of illegal drugs in Central Visayas as Camp Crame has ordered the reimplementation of Oplan Tokhang on Monday, January 29.

Senior Superintendent Julian Entoma, the Regional Operations and Plans Division chief, said on Thursday, January 25, that the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (Badacs) can help the police in curbing the illegal drug use.

He said Badac officers can identify the drug users and persuade them to undergo rehabilitation.

"Badac officers mao untay mo-convince," Entoma said.

The drug pushers, he said, will have a hard time earning if he has less customers.

Entoma said the police selected to carry out Oplan Tokhang will be oriented on the supplemental operational guidelines.

Some of the guidelines instructed the police that there will be no Tokhang operations at night and during weekends and they should respect human rights.

Tokhang operations will target suspected drug personalities who are on the watchlist.

Entoma said media personnel can witness the Tokhang operations on a voluntary basis.

He suggested the use of body cameras to ensure the police did not commit violations, but Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa said it is not mandatory. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
