Police chief involved in basketball dispute

A POLICE chief in Negros Occidental was accused of hitting a player in a basketball game between the team of policemen and the complainant’s group last Sunday, July 2.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., acting director of Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, said on Wednesday, July 5, that he was informed about the complaint last Monday.

He invited the complainant and the police chief at his office to discuss the issue, hoping for a settlement but the former failed to appear.

The name of the police chief was withheld pending the investigation.

Castil said the police chief told him that he only defended himself when the complainant hit him first due to a misunderstanding.

The police chief tried to pacify the two groups, but it resulted to another misunderstanding.

Castil said the case was referred to the Criminal Detection and Investigation Group-Negros Island Region (NIR), but unit head Superintendent Glen Lonogan said they have not received a complaint.

Castil said they will let the Police Regional Office (PRO)-NIR handle the complaint, but they are willing to cooperate.

“We do not tolerate such act. We will make the necessary action after the investigation,” he added.

Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of PRO-NIR, said she still has no idea about the complaint as of Wednesday.
