TO FURTHER educate high school students on the ill effects of illegal drugs and be aware of the anti-crime initiatives of the local police, the City Council through the public protection and safety, peace and order committee conducted a two day youth summit.
Baguio City Police Office city director Senior Superintendent Ramil Saculles explained to the Grade 11 and 12 students of the Baguio City National High School on the importance of the summit for the youth of the two day summit in cooperation with the Department of Education and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
"This youth summit is designed to implement and evaluate crime prevention initiatives which will be responsive to your needs and problems regarding your safety and protection in our city," said Saculles.
Saculles added students will be empowered to become instruments in sharing with their fellow students the information gathered during the summit, which will be based on the ideas and inputs they will be formulating.
The BCPO top cop pointed out the outcome of the two day summit will help improve the plans and programs for the promotion of the student’s welfare and security.
Saculles also informed the students on the processes on whom should be filed with a case and the importance of informing their teachers or adults of possible crimes which they may be involved in the future.
During the summit, DepEd introduced its newest program for the students particularly the creation of youth formation coordinator which is tasked to assist students who may need socio-psychological support.
PDEA meanwhile informed the students of the different kinds of illegal drugs being used at present and on how not to be involved with suspected drug personalities.
Bullying was also tackled during the summit to which BCPO chief operation unit head Chief Inspector Dexter Ominga reported that at present, only 4 percent of the teachers are informed of such cases.
"It is important for you and your peers to help each other to combat bullying. Your teachers must be informed if there are cases of bullying for it to be responded upon promptly to avoid your fellow students to suffer psychologically," Ominga added.
